Last year, Shelden Brown laid a vicious hit on Reggie Bush, and Bush had a hard time even getting up afterwards. This time, Steven Jackson was the victim. Check it out:
Jackson missed most of training camp due to a long holdout, but Brown reintroduced him quickly to life in the NFL. While Reggie Bush is widely regarded as a "soft" running back, Jackson has been known to attack defenders, and run straight at them from time to time. But this time, he got absolutely wrecked by Brown. It even sent his helmet flying. Who knows... maybe this was Marc Bulger's way of letting Jackson know that his holdout wasn't exactly appreciated.
In case you forgot, here's Shelden's hit last year on Bush:

Many thought Carlos Delgado was washed up after his batting average and on base percentages started plummeting in the past few seasons. While those numbers really haven't gotten any better this year, Delgado's bat is still proving to be quite valuable for the Mets, as he had another multiple-HR game, and accounted for most of the Mets' runs in a 6-3 win over the Phillies.Delgado went 3-4, scored twice, and drove in 4 runs. Damion Easley was the only other Mets player with any extra base hits, as he had a double and a triple.
Johan Santana went 7+ innings, and struck out 6 as he picked up his 13th win. The win helped the Mets salvage a split of their doubleheader, as the Phillies won the first game, 6-2.
Cliff Lee won his 21st game for the Indians. He now has accounted for 30% of the Indians total wins. This time, he spread out 7 hits over 7+ innings, giving up only 1 run. Lee's pitching and Victor Martinez' 3 RBI were all it took for the Indians to beat the Royals 3-1.

We've all seen the replay over and over. It sucks. I'm devastated. I can't believe my football season will happen Brady-less, but, while eating my chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream out of the carton and taking a hot bath... trying to eat/soak my Brady sorrows away I did happen to come across a few reasons that we Patriots fans can still be optimistic:- Tom is going to have the opportunity to prove his leadership skills OFF the field. We all know who Adrian Peterson is and most are likely familiar with the fact that he sat out his last season for Oklahoma. What you may not have noticed was him beside his coach, motivating his teammates and directing them on, well, I can only assume how to be more Peterson-like. Anyone who watched that season will tell you, Adrian Peterson is meant to be a coach. We can only hope that Tom will display the same eagerness to help his team and prove yet again what a leader he is to the team.
- Well, this one is more for Tom... but, I foresee lots of him being stuck in bed. Which only means one thing (besides lots of TV time)... and that is being pampered and served breakfast in bed... by Gisele. I mean, I don't know any guy that WOULDN'T help recover in lightning speed. Err... actually, lets hope he doesn't milk this.
- This is the biggie for me. Say it together now... GO AWAY BANDWAGONERS! This season should show a huge display of "favorite NFL Team" profile changes for FanIQ and team flip floppers across the US. I can't say that I will miss them, and I doubt any of the rest of the Patriots fans will either. One can only hope they stay gone. If today you had to wonder who Matt Cassel was, or if you've ever been seen wearing one of these pink jerseys... this is you. Buh-bye, see you next season!

It's now officially been confirmed. Tom Brady is out for the season with a torn ACL, as if you couldn't tell from the picture to your right.Naturally, Bill Belichick wouldn't say anything in the postgame interview, but according to two sources, Brady has serious damage to his knee.
“It’s bad,” a team source said. “We’re going to have to play without him.”
Also, the NFL has already come out and said that Bernard Pollard's hit on Brady was not dirty. Considering that Pollard was pushed in the back by New England running back Sammy Morris, I'm not sure the NFL could have done anything anyway.Obviously, you never like to see a guy go down with an injury, but for some Patriots haters - and Lord knows there are a lot of them - this is karmic payback for all the dirty moves Belichick and crew have pulled over the years (and the injury coming off of that crushing Super Bowl loss only makes it all the more devastating).
Frankly, I think the NFL needs the Patriots and Brady, because rooting against a common villain is always fun. Plus it creates great ratings.
The question now is what happens to the Patriots? Well, they beat the Chiefs, which means they're at least better than probably the bottom doormats in the league, but you can forget about a Super Bowl and probably even a playoff appearance. But at least Brady being on the Patriots' weekly injury report is actually true now.
There are also questions as to whether the Patriots, who have a rather old team, will even be able to be the force they once were next year should Brady come back totally healthy. This team's window - which has been open for a long time - may have just been slammed shut.
But the bottom line is this. The road to the Super Bowl for a number of teams just got a lot easier.

I'm not exactly sure why NBC chose to feature the Chicago Bears on their very first broadcast of the season, but I suppose the idea was to give the Indianapolis Colts new home, Lucas Oil Stadium, an appropriate first game. Despite this terrible view, the new Colts Stadium appears to be a modern marvel with a state of the art roof which should be open tonight.
While the new field will get plenty of attention, most of the focus will be on Peyton Manning's health. Let's hope those questions aren't answered the way Tom Brady's were earlier today. I assume he'll be a little off with some timing routes, but the Colts will run the ball as much as possible and attempt to knock the Bears defense off it's feet.
Speaking of the Bears defense, there's plenty of questions surround that group. Two years ago, they were one of the best in the NFL. Last year they fell into the bottom 10, getting abused by both the run and pass. Injuries played a role, but now that most of the starting lineup is healthy they shouldn't have a single excuse. Preseason didn't go so well, but I will remain hopeful that the switch will be turned on this evening.
And I can't introduce the game without mention of Neckbeard, Bears starting quarterback Kyle Orton. However will he perform tonight with an offensive line that gets confused with the stadium turnstile. My prediction is very poorly. Go figure.
97% are picking the Colts.
It's Football Night In America, so says NBC. Enjoy!
